Vatican Cites Obamaās āArroganceā in Moving to Fund Abortions Around the World
Saturday, January 24, 2009
(CNSNews.com) - Archbishop Rino Fisichella, president of the Vaticanās Pontifical Academy for Life, told the Italian newspaper Corriere dell Sera on Saturday that President Obama acted with āarroganceā in repealing the Mexico City Policy that had prevented U.S. international aid dollars from going to organizations that perform or promote abortion.
The archbishop criticized Obamaās act as "the arrogance of someone who believes they are right, in signing a decree which will open the door to abortion and thus to the destruction of human life," according to a line from the Italian interview rendered in English in an Agence France Presse article.
"If this is one of the first acts of President Obama, with all due respect, it seems to me that the path towards disappointment will have been very short," Fisichella said.
Monsignor Elio Sgreccia, who is also an official with the Pontifical Academy for Life and who was formerly its president, was also sharply critical of Obamaās move to fund global abortions.
This deals a harsh blow not only to us Catholics but to all the people across the world who fight against the slaughter of innocents that is carried out with the abortion," Msgr. Sgreccia, told the ANSA news agency, according to the Associated Press. "Among the many good things that he could have done, Barack Obama instead chose the worst.
